Children begin to want to explore their own environment by moving away from their care giver and picking what they want to play with. A secure happy child will start to feel more confident and secure if encouraged positively. If a child is over controlled or in a hostile environment this will prevent them feeling safe to explore which can impact on their own self-belief and capabilities, the start of low self-esteem.
