Importance of Conflict Management for Teenagers

Some disagreement between parents, carers and teenagers is normal and healthy.

Conflict can arise when your teenager starts to mature into an independent and responsible young person with their own opinions and preferences. Expect to have disagreements on issues such as what your child wears, what they do with their free time, and whether they adhere to your own set of beliefs and values.

However, too much conflict is not a desirable thing, thus conflict resolution is essential.

Managing disagreement with your child has several advantages. It is capable of:

  • Assist in lowering family stress levels
  • Strengthen your relationship with your child
  • Provide you both the opportunity to learn about and appreciate each other’s points of view
  • Assist your child in learning and practicing crucial life skills such as negotiating and compromise.
